Coast a Little Cooler, Inland Warmer

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) - Seasonable temperatures continue for the most part on Tuesday. A cut off area of low pressure will sit to our south during the day. This could bring some isolated showers to southern Monterey County. A rumble of thunder can't be ruled out. That threat will ease through the afternoon. The low will slowly move away from us but only to be replaced by overall troughing over the Western U.S. In the short gap, inland temps will warm 5-10ºF Tuesday but we’ll likely remain unchanged on the coast. The marine layer will have some trouble reestablishing its stability, but eventually, more persistent low clouds will return. Inland areas will then cool a bit Wednesday/Thursday as the troughing takes over.

Air Quality: Good  to Moderate

Tuesday: Remaining partly cloudy on the coast and slightly cooler with highs in the low to upper 60s, but warmer inland under mostly sunny skies with highs in the low 70s to low 90s. Breezy west-southwesterly onshore winds becoming windy up valleys late in the day.  Slight chance of an isolated shower/ thunderstorm in far southern Monterey County.

Overnight: Increasing low clouds will fill the bay and valleys, becoming partly to mostly cloudy for most by morning. Far interior locations will remain mostly clear. Lows will be a touch warmer with widespread 50s, few 40s in sheltered valleys. Patchy fog possible.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy on the coast early, becoming partly cloudy with highs mainly in the 60s. Inland areas will clear out by afternoon with highs cooling slightly to the 70s to upper 80s. Breezy west-southwesterly onshore winds becoming windy up valleys late in the day.

Extended: Temperatures won’t change much through the end of the week with weak troughing over the West Coast. We’ll see our daily cycle of low clouds on the coast as well. High pressure nudges in from the northwest into the weekend which should warm inland temps, but don’t expect too much coastal warming.
