Slightly Cooler Tuesday

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) – Temperatures will cool slightly on Tuesday in the wake of a weak frontal boundary that moved through late Monday night. Onshore flow will have a bit more of a westerly component which tends to cool the average coastal temperature around the bay. While high pressure is still nudging in from the west, the onshore flow will put the brakes on inland heating as well. Onshore flow eases a bit on Wednesday which in addition to the building ridge, should make for some pretty toasty temps inland-- +10ºF, or so.

Air Quality: Good

  ***GALE WARNING***
...for the near coastal waters from Pigeon Point to Point Piedras Blancas (outside of Monterey Bay) in effect until 9PM Tuesday.

*Northwest winds 15 to 30 kt with gusts up to 45 kt and seas 8 to 10 ft expected.

*Strong winds will cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility.

Mariners should alter plans to avoid these hazardous conditions. Remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure the vessel for hazardous conditions.

Overnight: Patchy low clouds around the bay and into nearby valleys. Can’t rule out a bit of fog. Slightly warmer lows with many areas in the low 50s and some 40s for higher inland valleys. Breezy northerly winds on the exposed coast.

Tuesday: Becoming mostly sunny with a few high clouds passing through. A bit cooler with coastal highs in the upper 50s to upper 70s—warmest on the north side of the bay—and mid-70s to low 90s inland. Northwesterly onshore winds becoming windy on the exposed coast and up the valleys late in the day.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny and seasonable on the coast but hot inland with widespread 80s-90s. Lighter winds, but still windy up valleys late in the day.

Extended: Expect a cooling trend into the holiday weekend as a weak trough develops on the West Coast. Highs should remain seasonable to slightly warm, but there will likely be an uptick of low clouds on the coast.
