Mising Camper seen in Santa Cruz found safe near Lake Edison

LAKE EDISON, Calif. (KION) - A missing camper seen in Santa Cruz has been found in a cabin near Lake Edison in Fresno County.

According to the Fresno County Sheriff's Office, 27-year-old Tiffany Slaton was found at the Vermillion Valley Resort as the owner went to check in on the properties near the lake.

When he opened the door to one of his cabins, he found Slaton inside and called the Fresno County Sheriff's Office, aware of the ongoing search for Slaton.

Deputies drove from Kaiser Pass Road near Lake Edison to find her after snowplows cleared the road of a snowpack, making the road impassable.

Slaton was reported missing on April 29 after her family had not heard from her since April 20. This began the search with a video released showing Slaton riding her bike in Santa Cruz County around April 8.

Before being found, Slaton was last seen near Cressman's General Store on April 24. Slaton was identified by deputies and taken to a staging area to be examined.

Slaton was confirmed to be dehydrated, yet overall in good health.

Fresno County Sheriff's detectives are set to arrange a meeting with Slaton to get a timeline of events.

Search continues for missing camper seen last month in Santa Cruz

FRESNO, Calif. (KION) - Over the weekend, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office scaled back a search for a missing camper seen on video in Santa Cruz County last month.

Tiffany Slaton is from Jeffersonville, Georgia, and had gone camping on their own on April 20 in the Shaver Lake/Huntington Lake area on April 20.

Slaton's family filed a missing person's report on April 29 after not hearing from Slaton in nine days.

Slaton was last seen in person at Cressman's General Store in Shaver Lake.

Fresno County Sheriff's Office released a video of Slaton as she rode through the Santa Cruz area on April 8 on their way toward Fresno County.

Slaton was traveling with a green and gray tent, a red stroller, and a blue and black e-bike. None of these items have been found/

While the search has been scaled back, efforts are still being made to locate Slaton. If anyone has seen Slaton, contact the Fresno County Sheriff's Office at (559) 600-3111.

Sergio Berrueta

Sergio Berrueta has been in the news for quite awhile going from studying print media to entering the realm of broadcast.

Originally from Bell Gardens, California, in Southeast Los Angeles. Berrueta started his professional news career in Eureka as a newscast producer for North Coast News (now The Northstate’s News) at KAEF ABC 23 in 2022. He pivoted a year later in 2022 going from behind-the-scenes to in front of the camera as a multimedia journalist for Redwood News Channel 3 (KIEM/KVIQ) also in Eureka.

Berrueta studied journalism at Humboldt State University (now Cal Poly Humboldt) earning his Bachelor’s Degree. Berrueta was a staff writer, page editor, social media manager and editor-in-chief of the university’s El Lenador, the only bilingual publication in all of Humboldt County.

Before moving to the North Coast, Berrueta had earned his Associate’s Degree at East Los Angeles College in 2019 after beginning his educational journey in 2012. He also was on staff for the ELAC’s publication, ELAC Campus News, having been a staff writer, page editor, and online editor.

Outside of news experience, Berrueta has also been in education as an AmeriCorps tutor in East Hollywood from 2017 to 2019 and served in a government role as a National Hometown Fellow for Lead for America with the City of Arcata in 2021.

When not focusing on news, Berrueta is an avid amateur cinephile having written about films in free time. He also writes poetry, attempting to get through a backlog of video games, enjoys visiting new places along the California Coast, and trying to keep up with the latest music and podcasts.
